Hammock Time...

So today's another one of those wonderful mornings where all I want to do is kick back and enjoy the view...but work is in the way again. Tonight is Boy's Night with my Son so I won't even get to watch the sunset tonght...but it's a good trade. I'm looking forward to spending the time with him, he's hit a bit of a rough patch with his mother and has needed a little extra attention the past couple of times I've seen him. I'm really looking forward to this weekend too, it's a Boy's Weekend so I'll have him from tomorrow night until dinner time on Sunday...not sure what we'll do, but I know it will be fun.

So, if you get some time today - kick back in the hammock for me...if you don't at least try to enjoy your own view....I'm enjoying mine.

Wouldn't Change....Much

This new view is truly lovely...peaceful...restful...a haven for a mind and heart that at times have far too much thought and feeling swirling within. Sometimes this stuff coalesces into a storm in my heart and I need to post like I did yesterday...other times, this stuff blows through and I'm the tranquil soul that started this new site.

Today there is little that I would do to change my view...the sky is clear...the temperature perfect upon my skin...the sand, clean and fine between my toes...the hammock perfectly strung between 2 tall, shady trees...the vodka martinis perfectly dry...I'm thinking of calling it a day and just staying here watching the waves crash upon the beach...but I've got a ton to do at the office today...so I'll be back in time for sunset tonight...

The only part that's missing is just beyond my reach...I can see it...feel it...taste it...I know it's there but it keeps slipping away each time I try to hold on. It's ok...I'm patient, it's something that I was taught by a very close Friend...I'm willing to keep walking towards it...regardless of the number of steps I must take...this journey is the destination.

Enjoy your own view today...I know I will...

Sunrise

Today I saw the sun rise on this new view...and somehow it didn't glitter quite the same as it has...and I'm not sure when it will again. The view is still the same...it's me that's now different...I'm not sure if it's a good different or a bad different...I've just changed...

Part of me that had been pushed aside, shoved into the dark, had started to creep into the light again and I was cherishing every moment of it...but I've had to kick it back into the dark and when it fell back into it's hole it took something more with it...I don't know if that's good or bad yet...only time will tell.

It seems that I keep giving little piece of myself to the darkness to keep from saying the wrong things...crossing lines that need to be kept in place...with friends, with TB, with family...I'm not sure that's such a great trade, but it's working so far and you know what they say about sticking with something that works.

While the view is different, I'm going to do all I can to enjoy it today...I hope you can enjoy your own view...

Today's post is sponsored in part by...

The letter I...courtesy of Miranda. I know...I agreed to try my hand at this and my friend Miranda jumps at the chance to throw me an oddball letter...fitting I suppose, but a challenge none-the-less.

I could have taken the easiest way out and just do another I am kind of list, but that's not quite my style so I took the easy way out and cracked open the dictionary (yes a real book) and looked at all the I words that were available...below is an edited list of the ones that I think work for me and the reasons I feel they fit...

If after reading my list you feel the need to try this, I promise to be fair in handing out letters...just let me know...

·Icing – One of the few penalties I was never charged with when I played hockey…
·Ice Cream – Chocolate…with more chocolate…and oh, yeah…more chocolate!!!
·Id – That primal, instinctual part of each of us…I call mine Lil’ Green and Ugly…he tends to get loud at the worst possible moments so I keep him under heavy lock and key…
·Idea – If I could only find the one that makes me rich beyond my wildest dreams…
·Idealistic – Yes…I believe that some things should be a certain way and work hard to meet those goals…
·Idiot – only where certain topics are concerned….
·Idolatry – I’ve been known to practice this by praying to the baseball gods every time my beloved Cubs take the field…
·Igloo – I think it would be fun to build one next winter with my Son…
·Ignorance – I don’t tolerate intentional ignorance…if you should know better but do something stupid anyway, I’ll call you on it….
·Iliad – read it…twice – still don’t like it…
·IL – The abbreviation for Illinois – my home state
·Illogical – only where certain topics are concerned…
·Illusion – always fascinated me…in both ‘magic’ and language
·Imagery – trying harder and harder to use it appropriately
·Imagination – always had an active one and always felt sorry for those that didn’t
·Imaginative – when it comes to pleasing a partner…I can be very creative….
·Imbibe – not much any more…did heavily when I was younger
·Immaculate – the way my kitchen must be at all times…unfortunately the rest of the house could use some help from those cleaning fairies that Miranda talks about so often…
·Immigrant – my Father…born a Canadian and became a Naturalized US Citizen on his 18th birthday
·Immodest – only with the right person…
·Immortal – I would only want to live forever if I could share it…otherwise it would be a curse not a blessing.
·Impetus – The ‘Divorce Cha-Cha’ that started me in this weird and wonderful world of blogging….
·Implacable – use your imaginations…
·Important – what I wish to be in the lives of those that I love
·Imposing – perhaps to those that only judge by what they can see…
·Imposter – the one that is in my place…
·Irony – I thought this would be hard…
There were so many more that I cut out due to space issues...maybe I'll try this again some other time...

Until then...I'm just gonna enjoy my view...hope you do the same....

Beauty

Yesterday as I sat doing some additional research for a story I have been playing at writing for a while, I found an excerpt of a Navajo healing ceremony that captured the hope and tranquility of the path I walk and the view before me. I wanted to share it with you all today...

Navajo Night Chant:

In Beauty may I walk.
All day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons may I walk.
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.

With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk.
With dew about my feet may I walk.
With Beauty may I walk.

With Beauty before me, may I walk.
With Beauty behind me, may I walk.
With Beauty above me, may I walk.
With Beauty below me, may I walk.
With Beauty all around me, may I walk.

In old age wandering on a trail of Beauty, lively , may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of Beauty, living again, may I walk.

It is finished in Beauty.
My wish for each of you today is that you find the Beauty in your path and your view...

The Envelope Please

And in the category of best placement of a tattoo, the winner is...this guy...

Enjoy your view...

Sorry

Yes - I am apologizing up front for the joke that I am about to paste below...the humor involved is very crass and far beneath me, but it made me laugh out loud - so I'm gonna share it anyway...

An old married couple no sooner hit the pillows
when the old man passes gas and says, "Seven Points."

His wife rolls over and says, "What in the world was that?"
The old man replied, "It's fart football."

A few minutes later his wife lets one go and says "Touchdown, tie score."
After about five minutes the old man lets another one go and says, "Aha. I'm ahead 14 to 7."

Not to be outdone the wife rips out another one and says, "Touchdown, tie score."

Five seconds go by and she lets out a little squeaker and says, "Field goal, I lead 17 to 14."
Now the pressure is on the old man.

He refuses to get beaten by a woman, so he strains real hard. Since defeat is totally unacceptable, he gives it everything he's got, and accidentally poops in the bed.

The wife says, "What the heck was that?"

The old man says, "Half time, switch sides..."
Again...SORRY!! I'll go sit facing the corner now...*hangs head in shame and embarrassment*...

I hope you enjoy your view today...

Chocolate

So I've decided to take the easy way out today...I'm gonna share some humor that I got in email this morning. I'm going to preface this by saying that it made me laugh, but some of you might find it a little harsh...then again you weren't married to the woman that I am trying to get divorced from...

Tom was driving home from one of his business trips in Northern Arizona when he saw an elderly Navajo man walking on the side of the road. As the trip was long and quiet, he stopped the car and offered the man a ride. With a silent nod of thanks, the Navajo man climbed into the car.

Resuming the journey, Tom tried in vain to make small talk with the Navajo man. The old man just sat silently, looking everything he saw, studying every little detail...until he noticed a white plastic bag on the seat between them.

"What in bag?" asked the old man.

Tom looked down at the bag and said, "It's a box of chocolates. I got it for my wife."

The Navajo man was silent for a moment or two and then, nodding his head and speaking with the quiet wisdom that only could come from an Elder, he said "Good trade."
I'm just gonna sit here, chuckling to myself as I enjoy my view today.

I hope you all enjoy your own view too...

Update

Well...I figured out what was wrong...it turns out that the problem wasn't mine after all...the problem belongs to one of my best friends...ok - with one of the 2 women that I have ever really loved...

She's having some problems with her husbands family and it's beginning to wear on their relationship...not good under normal circumstances, but worse with her being due with their baby in October. I calmed her down and gave her the best advice that I could, but I still feel that I haven't done enough....anyone else ever feel that way...you've done something for a friend and yet you still feel you could/should do something more??? How do you deal with it??

I'm gonna' keep looking for answers today, but at least the alarm bell has stopped ringing.

Enjoy your view....

Something...

The view the past couple of days has been beautiful and I woke up this morning to yet another gorgeous day...but something just feels...I don't know....off - somehow...

You ever have that feeling where you know that everything should be ok...you think it is,at least, but there's just that one little something going on in the background...ticking away like the last few seconds on a time-bomb? For some reason that's what today is like...I can't put my finger on it...something is either currently not right or about to become not right in my world and I don't have the faintest idea what it is...I hate this feeling. I hate not knowing what's going to happen....I hate being out of control like this and not knowing what needs fixing....

Maybe I should have called in sick today and just stayed home...in bed...with the covers pulled over my head...until whatever this is goes away...or explodes.

Until something pops, or this feeling goes away, I'll just be here beside the road...trying to enjoy the view...

I hope you can enjoy your own view today.

100 Things

Ok...so Miranda dared us to post our own 100 and being a guy I couldn't resist....so in the spirit of my About Me post, here we go....

1. I was born October 3

2. I come from an Extended Family where it is understood that you can just call from the airport and say, “Hey what’s for breakfast??”

3. I have had to start asking my family where they are calling from if they call at unexpected times of the day.

4. I am the oldest of 3 children…my kid sister was born exactly on time (to the day) – she is 2 years 9 months younger than I am (to the day)…my baby brother is 7 years younger than I am.

5. I am the 7th generation First Born Male in my Family.

6. I am 5'7 if I stand on my left leg...but I'm only 5'6 on my right.

7. I have broken my right leg more often than my left and over time it has healed an inch shorter.

8. I have had so many broken bones at one time or another that my Orthopedic Surgeon named his second boat after me...The Flying G...

9. I was once a Martial Artist (thus the cause of many of my broken bones).

10. I was once a teenage boy (thus the cause of the rest of my broken bones).

11. I spent the entire summer before my 16th birthday at a specialized camp in Florida run by the US Olympic Swim Team...the camp is by invitation only.

12. I will never forget my favorite counselor...I learned a lot more than just swimming technique from her...

13. I have never shared everything she taught me with any one of the lovers that followed her…but they each shared some of what I learned…

14. I spent 10 days of the following summer learning how to drive almost everything with wheels at obscenely high speeds and in adverse conditions at an old military base in Arizona.

15. I drive at obscenely high speeds in a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant that has had several professionally done engine modifications preformed on it.

16. I have only had 1 speeding ticket in my entire life...for going 25 MPH over the limit.

17. I talked the cop into writing the ticket for the 25 MPH over the limit I was going when he caught me...even though I was doing 35 MPH over the limit when he clocked me...this saved me jail time.

18. I do not make friends easily.

19. I do not give up on friends easily...the only way to lose my friendship is to truly work at it...there is little you can do to lose that status, but when it is gone it can never be reclaimed.

20. I was taught at an early age that books, music and movies were our friends.

21. I am as loyal to the books I read, the movies I watch and the music I listen to as I am to my friends.

22. As a result I have some 18 odd boxes of books and another 18 or so boxes of music and movies sitting in storage…I won’t get rid of them either.

23. I am loyal beyond what most people would consider rational or reasonable.

24. I am a man of my word…if I make a promise I will keep it unless I am released from that promise.

25. Even when released from a promise…I will still eventually make good…it’s who I am.

26. I am an extremely private person…not Hughes or Dietrich reclusive, but I value my privacy.

27. I think this stems from having the Family that I have (see #2 and #3)…

28. All this talking about me is already beginning to get difficult and I’m only just over a quarter of the way there…LOL!

29. My oldest friend in the world shares my first name...we've known each other since we were 2...he became Family a long time ago...

30. I have been lucky enough to have 2 other people come into my life and cross the line from friend to Family...all together the 3 of them have known me almost 80 years.

31. I have been blessed to love 2 women in my life...one is among the 3 mentioned above...the other holds a different place in my life and always will.

32. I have a Son who is 8.

33. He is such an amazing person...sometimes I am in awe of all he knows and has accomplished at such a tender age.

34. I am still fighting to get divorced from the woman that makes my life hell.

35. My Son’s Mother…(see #34)…is neither of the 2 women I mentioned in #31…

36. I am not perfect…nor do I try to be…I always aim for ‘exceptional as minimum’ though.

37. Until I got hurt last fall I was a gym rat...a standard workout for me would be 1-2 hours long with a total weight lifted somewhere in the 5-6 tonnage range (10,000-14,000 pounds)...

38. I have recently been cleared by my Orthopedic Surgeon to go back to the gym...now if I can just find the money again...anyone got some spare change?? LOL!!

39. I am proud to admit that I am an addict...I have been addicted to Chocolate for longer than I can remember...

43. Most of the meat tastes similar...and only the birds truly taste anything like chicken.

44. I love most kinds of music.

45. I love to sing...unfortunately I can only carry a tune in a bucket about 5% of the time...the rest of the time I'm beyond hopeless, but having fun so I don’t really care what anyone else thinks! LOL!

46. I love the rain...the smell of it...walking in it...watching it...making love in it...sleeping while listening to it...

47. I am a Gentleman...YES, we do still exist.

48. I am also a Hopeless Romantic.

49. I prefer a good book, a good bottle of wine and a roaring fireplace to a night of TV watching.

50. I believe that old Ben was absolutely correct when he said, "A day without learning is a day not worth having lived."

51. I believe that he was also absolutely dead on when he said "Beer is God's way of showing us that He loves us and wants us to be happy."

52. I believe that old Ben was never quite the same after that lightning strike...LOL!

53. I am a storehouse of utterly useless knowledge...but I make a good Trivial Pursuit partner....

54. At the risk of sounding like more of a nutcase...I am often visited in my dreams by the spirit of a child that has not yet been born...we know each other well...we talk about everything in my dreams...

55. I hope that someday I will have the chance to meet this child.

56. If you haven't called the men with the huggie jackets yet, I thank you for keeping on reading....

57. If you have called the men with the huggie jackets, it's ok...I don't hold a grudge.

58. I am glad that I’m doing this in Word before transferring it to Blogger…I keep going back and adding things where I think they should go and the numbering keeps resetting….

59. I believe…in God…in Love…in Truth…in Justice…in Hope…let’s just leave it at I believe…

60. I am sure that there is truly a reason for everything…just because we don’t know what it is doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

61. I believe that God made us capable of loving an endless number of people in our lives…but we each only have one perfect match.

62. I believe that one perfect match is the one true love of your life...and if you are fortunate enough to find each other not even time or space will keep you apart.

63. I believe in Karma.

64. I have studied most of the major religions at one time or another…looking for answers to the questions that my own religion encourages me to ask.

65. I learned that ALL religion can be boiled down to one universal statement…Breathe in, breathe out, live a moral life, love as you would want to be loved, be kind to each other and please don’t eat the daisies.

66. Ok…so I improvised on that last bit…He really said don’t eat the fruit of this one tree…but somehow it got a bit missed in translation.

67. In case I didn’t mention it…I have a warped sense of humor.

68. I despise injustice of all kinds.

69. I will go out of my way to right an injustice if I can.

70. I believe in the Death Penalty for child molesters and rapists…not the quick lethal injection, electric chair, hanging or firing squad kind of death…more the ‘string them up by their wrists and keep them medically alive and conscious while their victims slowly peel them like a grape’ kind of death.

71. I can be a bit morbid at times…sorry.

72. I am opinionated…LOL…in case you missed it…

73. I believe that it is a government’s role to interfere as little as possible in the lives of its citizens.

74. I believe that by definition, governments will always interfere as much as possible in the lives of its citizens…this is one of the great conundrums of our time.

75. I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinion…until they try to use that right to abuse others.

76. I am amazed that I have made it three quarters of the way through this!

77. I once suspected that a Professor never read anything we wrote past the first full page, so I tested him…in the middle of the first paragraph on the second page of an assignment I wrote, “If you have read this far, I owe you a case of your favorite beverage. Tell me what it is and it is yours.”…I never hear a word from him.

78. I started writing really great first pages and then filled the remaining pages with gibberish.

79. I passed that class with flying colors.

80. One of my biggest regrets is not having the money to have finished school…I will someday – for myself.

81. I would love to open a Night Club…like out of Casablanca…only I know it would only be a novelty…this is the wrong era for such a place…

82. I know exactly who I would have hired as my Hostess…and she knows the offer I would have made…

83. I look forward to finding occasions to put on a tuxedo.

84. I miss all the westerns and kung fu shows that used to make up every Sunday morning’s TV schedule when I was younger…

85. I used to hunt, but stopped shortly after I saw a Mother Bear get revenge for the death of one of her cubs…

86. I will never forget the pure power or ferocity of an enraged Mother Bear as she attacks a human being…

87. I had nightmares for a month after seeing the attack…

88. I still go fishing…in fact I’m supposed to go next weekend with my Dad, Brother and Brother-in-Law…

89. I find that an afternoon spent fishing is one of the most restful and rejuvenating ways I can spend a day.

90. As restful as fishing is, I wish I had other plans for next weekend.

91. I love to spend time outdoors…be it camping, walking in the woods, fishing…it doesn’t matter…

92. As much as I love to be outdoors…I love watching movies too.

93. I am hooked on watching the Discovery Channel…it’s one of the only things on my TV when it’s on…

94. I want to travel more over then next couple of years…I miss it.

95. I love to cook…I find it therapeutic.

96. I love to eat – thus all the time I spent in the gym…damn, I need to get back there…LOL!

97. I believe that cooking for someone you love is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.

98. I believe cleaning up after you cook for someone you love is another of the greatest gifts you can give them.

99. I am relieved to have almost reached the end.

100. I’m done…anyone with any questions can ask at their own risk…LOL!
Whew...time for me to sit back and enjoy the view....hope you have enjoyed reading this.

I hope you enjoy your own view...

Thank you...

There is an old Spanish saying that comes to me from time to time...it came back to me the other day and I want to share it with you all today. While I no longer remember it verbatum, it goes something like....

No siempre puedo saber la razón, pero sé donde y quien estoy. No tengo nada temer, porque estoy nunca solo en mis viajes.

I may not always know the answers, but I know who and where I am. I have nothing to fear, because I am never alone on my journey.
Those of you who have read my stuff from the old place know the full story of the journey that has led me here...those that didn't have that opportunity, please know that I have been on a long and winding road to get here. Without the support of each of you, I would be in a very different place today than I am...I would still be lost in the dark, dreading the painbow before me...not the healed, content man that is enjoying the view before him.

In my entire life I have never expected to need to say what is coming next to people that I have never met face to face...thank you all, my friends. It is with you being here, by my side, that I have remembered who I am and I have found where I am on this journey...it is with you being here, by my side, that I know I have nothing to fear...it is with you being here, by my side, that I can enjoy each step of this journey and cherish the magnificent view before me.

So, THANK YOU again...from the bottom of this healed heart. Please enjoy your own view today...

The Dance...

I've got a million things that I want to say today...yet somehow the words keep tripping over themselves. I've started and stopped this post a dozen times....or more...each time I get to a point where I can stop and read what has gone before, I am amazed by the inconsistency in my thoughts....there has been no binding theme...one sentence is followed immediately by one that has a different topic....it looks like my thoughts have been written by someone suffering from ADHD....so here I sit, trying yet again to string a couple sentences together without falling off my train of thought.

Of all the thoughts rattling through the corridors of my mind today...I keep coming back to the image Sugar put forth in her post today...the dance we continually do with everyone that impacts our life. Sometimes the dance is smooth, the partners swirling and moving in perfect step...the dance is perfect...however there are other times it looks like one of the partners is having a seizure and the dance starts to fall apart around you.

Sometimes when the dance starts to fall apart, if you and your dance partner are truly lucky...you can find the rhythm, the volume quiets and the tune mellows...you save that which is most precious to each of us - our friendships.

Sugar - I hope that you are able to continue that dance you wrote about...in this life we don't ever have enough truly skilled dance partners.

I'm off to enjoy the magnificent view before me today...I hope that you each can enjoy your own view today, too.

The Rain

I sit here in the dark...listening to the rain as it falls against my window...it speaks to me tonight...it reminds me of where I am...who I am...what path I am walking and why I walk it.

I am filled with both stress and tranquility...joy and sorrow...the thoughts bouncing around my head calm me and yet I can not rest...

I see glimpses of where I stand today and the path ahead of me - vivid with its vast views and a destination that is somewhere over the horizon....the path that I used to walk and its final destination...and I also see a third path - shrouded in the mist of possibility...the path that might yet be. Each path is lined with images of those that touch and have touched my life...family and friends....all those that I support and support me in return...I may not be living the life that I had pictured or planned for myself...but I know where I am and who I am and I am content with both...for now. I feel at peace...for now...

I'm going to try and get some sleep while I listen to the rain...if I don't check in until late tomorrow enjoy your view...

The CD...

So last night as I was taking my Son home he asked me to play a CD he pulled from his school backpack. He proudly told me that he made the CD from songs he 'pulled from other stuff'...turns out that it was a very well done mix CD of mostly country music....I should have known based on the source for all the music...his mother's CD collection. LOL!!

As the disc played, I became more and more impressed by not only the choices of songs he selected - but the order he burned them in....each new song related in some way to the one before it. This was a seriously well thought out playlist.

I'm not a huge country music fan, but some of the stuff he had selected had a lot of the old-school cords and arrangements of the rock music I grew up on. As I dropped him off I asked him if I could borrow the CD to make a copy for myself...he smiled and said, 'Nope...I knew you would like it so that's yours Dad - I have a copy in my room.'

So it turns out that not only is my Son a genius when it comes to planning out an album playlist, but he's psychic too...knowing before I did that I would like the music enough to want a copy for myself. I am constantly amazed by that little man and I love him so much.

So today, I'm gonna sit back - set the CD player to repeat and enjoy the view before me...hope you get to enjoy your own view...

See ya...

BTW - Happy 50th, my friend!

About Me...

I borrowed this from Sugar...anyone who wants it from here...help yourself...

I AM me...for better or worse.
I WANT everything....lol...no, ok - then I want a Genie to grant 3 wishes.
I WISH that those that I love, find peace and happiness in everything they do.
I HATE narrow-minded people, liars and traffic.
I MISS that one smile that was mine alone...
I FEAR saying or doing the wrong thing and destroying something precious.
I HEAR the pain in your voice when you are torn so many different ways at once.
I WONDER if I will ever find anything that compares even remotely to what I have let go of.
I REGRET too many things to talk about here...
I'M NOT whole...but I'm close enough to be myself all the time.
I DANCE when I am moved to...be it by drink, music or emotion....it doesn't matter where - if I am moved, I dance....an ex-girlfriend and I once waltzed down the middle of a shopping mall because they had an orchestra set up...
I SING badly and loudly...but I love music so I keep doing it...
I CRY far too easily and way too often these days...
I'M NOT ALWAYS as at peace as I seem...think of me as a duck on a pond...on the surface all may appear tranquil, but if you look underneath my legs are usually going a mile a minute just to keep me afloat....
I MAKE an excellent snuggle partner....or so I've been told....
I WRITE what's inside...it may not always make sense when it hits the light of day and I know that most of the time it's not anywhere near as well done as any of the stuff I read daily...but it's always a piece of what's going on inside me.
I CONFUSE myself more often that not....
I NEED to keep walking this path, until I run out of road...
I HAVE regrets...quite a few as a matter of fact...but then again who doesn't?
I LOVE and can't stop...I don't know how to.
I SHOULD trust my instincts more than I do...

Hope this helps you learn a little more about the enigma that is Mr. G.....

Enjoy your view today!!

Update

Ok...so I peeked out the window just a moment ago....seems like some of the cloud cover has lifted.

The sun is filtering through what remains...casting interesting shadows upon the ground....

All in all...another interesting day with another interesting view....

Hope you all are having a good one....

See ya...

Hopefully....

Sorry if this isn't in the same tone as previous posts...but Today's view is highly obscured...low lying clouds clutter the horizon and the chances of rain are growing...

Hopefully, later today the sun will return...the clouds will flee...and this view will be beautiful again.

Until things change....try to enjoy your own view...

See ya'...

Mother's Day

Just so no-one thinks that I have forgotten what today was...HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all!!

My Son and I celebrated with my Mom last Thursday (which was also her birthday) because he spent this weekend with his own mother. We gave her a pair of movies featuring one of her favorite actors and my Son spent extra time reading with her and sitting close relaxing before it was time for him to go back to his mom. However, today my sister had a brunch at her new house for Mom and her Mother-in-Law. The entire family was there...all in all a nice way to spend Mother's Day.

I hope that you all got a chance to spend some time with those that you love today.

Enjoy the view...

The Journey

I was flipping through the next blog button last night and came across a page with quotes on it. Some had the people that they were attirbuted to - others didn't...

There was one quote that didn't kinda' jumped out at me...probably because of the questions that raced through my head all day yesterday...

“I want to be happy for all the things I have, rather than sad
for all the things I do not have."
I find that I am happy for all the things that I do have. Yes, I admit I miss what I don't have...but that's not going to detract from my enjoyment of this new view.

Once I knew both my journey and my destination...that may have changed with this new view...but I look forward to making this journey and finding my final destination...wherever that may be.

Enjoy your own view today...

Enjoy the view...

Despite the questions running through my head...today has been a great day.

I am enjoying the path that I am on...
I am enjoying the view...
I am in a very tranquil place and I like the view.

So...no answers to the questions from this morning...but I don't care.

Enjoy the view...

What if...???

This morning started with a conversation with a friend and a smile...not a bad way to start the day...but the conversation that we had has led me to look closer at this new view that I've gained...made me question myself and if this view I've got is just a holding pattern for something else...

I don't think it is...I've worked too hard to reach this spot...here where the air is clear- crisp and clean like a Midwestern Spring Morning...the view is breathtaking - stretching before me full of endless possibility and I have found the ability to be at peace with both myself and the world around me...but....

What if I've fooled myself into thinking that all is ok, when somewhere deep inside all I am doing is waiting for something else to happen?? What if I'm not ok?? What if this view is just a painting on the window to the one that I had to leave behind before coming here - what happens if that window breaks or is opened?? What if...??

I feel that the view is real, but I've been distracted by feelings before...lost sight of what needed to be done because of feelings before...how can I be sure??

Today, while happy and peaceful, has turned into one full of questions that I don't have any ready answers to....so I'm gonna' pull myself away from here and seek my answers in the view before me. I hope that your day is filled with the reality of the tranquility that I think I found.....

Rained Out

So I got up this morning intent on taking pictures of the sunrise to share with you all...there's something magical about the colors that continually appear in a Midwest Sunrise....

As is my habit, I turned on the news as I was getting ready and up comes the weather...yup you guessed it...90% chance of rain today, 50% every day through Saturday...

So, since I don't have a sunrise picture that I can share...here is another picture of the Lake from the 37th Floor...
Damn that's pretty - even if I say so myself....

Enjoy your view today everyone!!

Tranquility

Today a friend commented that I sounded tranquil...more like me than I have for the past couple of weeks...and it made me think about all that has happened that led me here to my new path and this new view...

It feels like a corner of the path has been turned...for the first time in the past several weeks I don't feel lost on this trail - as peaceful as it has been. By no means have I stopped feeling the way I did before the changes that brought me here nor have I stopped longing for things to be as they were, I haven't stopped needing that and I never will...but for some reason today I am able to look at what I do have and am happy, if more were to be given, I will absolutely happily take it, but at this moment, right now I am happy with what I have.

Perhaps it was being free...being in the wind yesterday, perhaps it was a Friend being revealed as the Wizard behind the curtain and that Friend being ok...safe...happy, perhaps it was just me deciding that since I don't know what the future holds...I should face it ready for anything - and with what I have, I know I can do that.

Yes, I have reached a very tranquil place on the road...so I'm pulling over to the side - kicking back and enjoying this view...I hope you all have the same chance today.

See Ya'...

A View From The Middle

I so want to talk about the adventure that I had yesterday, but I can't...to do so here would mean breaking confidentiality with work...I know that some of you know the details, but I've gotta ask that you keep them under your hats.....

Let's just say that the view from the middle of a pack of new motorcycles rolling down the open road is a beautiful thing.

I loved the view yesterday...I wonder what today's view will be???

An Unseen Trail

So yesterday, my Son woke me up and insisted that we go for a long 'walk in the forest'. Being the doting father that I am, off we went to my favorite Forest Preserve.
Although I had walked the trail we used often, I had never noticed a turn off that my Son did. He insisted that we take it...
I'm glad he did...because it lead to a very interesting bridge...
and an unusual tree fall...
All in all...I had an interesting day full of new views...Hope your day was just as wonderful...

A View From On High

So last night was my Gram's 90th Birthday Party. It was held on the 37th Floor of the building she lives in. Drinks started to be circulated at 5:30 with finger foods....about 7 we sat down for dinner...

Needless to say much wine was consumed by all adults...good food was consumed by all...children played...laughs were shared...tears were shed...and I got to spend it all with Family - one would be hard pressed to have made today better....but if you have to try...

Throw in a daylight view like this of Lake Michigan...

Or a view like this of the most beautiful skyline ever created by man...
and you have a nearly perfect celebration for a woman that has devoted 70 years of her life to her Family.

Happy Birthday Gram!!

Where is Mr G?

Good Morning, Campers!!

This weekend, yours truly has a lot of family stuff going on. Today is my Grandmother's 90th Birthday. My Dad and my Aunt are throwing her a party that only some of the family will be at....when I use the words 'only some of the family', I'm saying they had to limit the party to 100 people due to space requirements.

You see, my Gram (yes I call her that because she looks like she only weighs one gram...) is the youngest of 13 children. Unfortunately, she is also the last of her generation. However, at this party we will have several of her nieces and nephews, as well as all 5 of her grandchildren and all 3 of her great-grandsons...the rest of the family that could not be here have been sending video, audio and text birthday messages to one of my cousins for a scrapbook for the past 3 months. This should be an interesting party.

Tomorrow, my Son and I will be sitting back and enjoying the view together...just us guys...don't really have anything specific planned - a low key day with my boy sounds like plan enough for now...but knowing him I'll probably be running all over creation. LOL!!! Oh well, that's what it's all about I guess.

Whatever you all do this weekend - try to take some time to enjoy your own view...See you all soon...

Inspired Selfishness

I have decided that I want to wake up every morning for the rest of my life the exact same way I woke up today.

To some that may sound a bit selfish, to others a bit inspired...it's actually a bit of inspired selfishness to be honest with you....but to experience everything that I did this morning on a daily basis would be divine.

The quiet of the early morning, broken only by the sweetest sounds I know of...Followed by another beautiful sunrise....filled with singing birds and the smell of the flowers...

I'm definitely enjoying the view today.

Almost Magical

This morning I sat on my back deck watching the sun slowly begin to rise...sending glorious color shooting across a pure blue sky...just a handful of high wispy clouds to catch and reflect the vibrant pinks and reds...the morning was almost perfect...

The quiet, serenity of the moment shared only with a few birds out looking for their first meal of the day...my mug of tea slightly steaming in the slowly brightening day...the morning was almost perfect...

There is something almost magical about watching the sun rise...and the one thing that was missing - the one thing that would have made this morning perfect...it's a bit beyond my reach right now - but you never know what will happen...

I'm gonna go sit and watch the sun some more before I have to go to work...enjoy your own view today, everyone!!

Cost and Value

Last night I sat in front of my home pc for an hour and a half, typing and retyping the same post 3 times...each time, Blogger in it's infinite wisdom decided to eat it. Finally I just gave up and went to bed...figuring I would try again this morning...but this morning the topic I had picked to share doesn't seem to fit my mood...

Today's mood is more reflective...perhaps even more somber than what I had attempted to post last night. This morning I need to write about cost and value...

Everything that we say or do in this world has a cost or value associated with it...we choose one pair of shoes over another...we go to one restaurant over another...we select the area where we will live...and yes, we make cost and value decisions about our interpersonal relationships.

Sometimes we get a great deal...we're happy with our decisions...satisfied we have done the right thing. Other times...we regret what we have done...we realize that the cost was too high or that there was no value in what we chose. When this happens we can either take steps to try to correct our mistakes...or we can just let things lay and use it as a life lesson.

The cost of this new view was way too high, but I paid it knowing that it was the only choice I had and hoping to retain something that is more valuable, more precious to me than I can ever describe...I've taken all the steps that I can to try to correct the situation, but in the end I have to just let it lay...

Perhaps you can say that I'm suffering from 'buyer's remorse'...but today - the value of what I have is being blurred by the cost I have paid...

UPDATE 7:30 AM

Getting this out and seeing the sun rise has helped to clear my head...perhaps the view today won't be so bad after all. I hope the sun is shining on you today...take some time and enjoy your own view...

WTF???

I always thought that businesses were supposed to be engaged in the process of making money while serving a public need. It seems that is not always the case.

Take today for example...there is a well known company that advertises that they ship their products worldwide - go to their website and anything you see, can be delivered to any spot on the globe. What they don't tell you is that there are limitations...you see the website they ask you to go to is for DOMESTIC DELIVERY ONLY AND THEY SEND YOU TO A DIFFERENT SITE FOR ANYTHING THAT IS FOREIGN DELIVERY!!!!!! Now, normally this wouldn't irk me, but you see this other site - has fuck all in the way of product!!! What I wanted to send to a friend to cheer them up can't be done from this well known company that advertises that they ship their products worldwide....

All I wanted to do was send a gift to a friend...something to let them know that they aren't alone or invisible...something to let them know that someone thinks that they are worthy...something to apologize for not having arms that are long enough...

Perhaps I'll try to find another way...later...for now, I'm just gonna' dust off the hammock and enjoy the view...

Changes??

I don't know who said it first (the internet searches I used found dozens of pages claiming to have originated the quote)...but sometimes the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Even with my new view, I still sit before the blank screen...staring at the expanse before me...searching both head and heart for something, anything that might be worth writing. Knowing that there are volumes within, waiting to ooze their way into the ether, but sometimes the words escape me.

Tonight, I want to write the words that are bubbling just below the surface...but I can't...some are too full of emotions that are best left to rest, for now, and everything else I have to write has been written before in another time and another place or they have been spoken aloud and silently shared, recently, with those that needed to hear them.

Since, apparently, nothing is ready to be written...I guess I'll just enjoy the view...Good Night!!
