Wanted

Today I wanted to post something fun...something amusing...something slightly pervy (hey, it is Friday after all)...but nothing wants to flow today.

I think DG's case of lost mojo has been shared.

I'll try to post something either later today or this weekend..if not I'll see you all on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend and enjoy your view...I'll be doing my best to enjoy mine.

Sound

It occurred to me today that all sound, not just music, has a direct effect on the way we feel and how we act. This brain-storm wasn't caused by a lightning strike or one of those absurd little cars with the 4" open pipe at the end of their muffler...it was triggered by an early morning call from TB.

Typically there are certain people that I can expect calls from at certain times of the day...so when my phone rang just before 7 this morning, I didn't look to see who it was - see my mistake yet?? For the second morning in a row I have had TB call and yell in my ear because she is apparently suddenly incapable of getting my Son out of bed and ready for school. For the second morning in a row I have had the shrill, whining, loud, obnoxious voice of TB echoing in my ear - blaming me for her inability to parent. Needless to say, my mood was less than stellar when I finally hung up. I turned on the radio hoping for a song that would change my mood for the better since I hadn't even made it to the office yet...no luck. I grabbed some of the CDs sitting in the car....nothing looked good...so I thought about this for another moment or two and realized that what I needed was to talk to someone that I know is always going have a smile in their voice and would be around to talk so early in the morning...you know - use a good force to offset the bad...things cancel each other out and the day starts fresh...

I ran a quick scan on the card-file in my head and called a good friend at work. As soon as the phone was answered, I knew that my day was not just starting fresh...but it was getting a huge push down the trail to being a great day. Within seconds, my friend had me smiling and actually looking forward to the day ahead of me...even though I have to be here at work. I don't remember if I thanked my friend or not for the smile that they loaned me...if I didn't do it on the phone - THANK YOU!!! I hope you know how much it means to me.

I'm now set to enjoy the rest of the day...I hope you all get to enjoy your own view.

Tradition...

Tradition dictates that during the week between Rosh Hashannah (New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) that I approach each of the people that I have wronged during the previous year and ask for their forgiveness. Sometimes it is impossible to locate all the people that you have wronged, sometimes they refuse to forgive you, sometimes you know that you've hurt someone so deeply that you can not be forgiven so you don't even try...in these cases, you spend the day of Yom Kippur asking 'The Big Guy' for forgiveness.

Now, I know that most of you that read my stuff do so on a regular basis, just as I read your blogs. I also know that I could not have possibly gone the entire year without insulting, offending or alienating you at some point in time...even if it was just by being too darn perky at times...with something that I wrote either here or in a comment on your own blog. Therefore, I ask for your forgiveness for any wrong that I have done this year. I have not intentionally set out to insult, offend or alienate any of you and I'll try to tone down the perky so you don't gag.

Thank you, in advance.

Those Eyes...

Last night as I slept, I dreamed that I was walking through a dense fog that was unlike any other that I had ever been in. I could clearly see the path before me...the fields of sunflowers...the trees...the stream...yet the fog was all around me. It swirled and danced around me...urging me to keep walking with a seemingly irresistible pull.

Slowly the fog took shape...gaining substance, yet still remaining ethereal. The shape paused on the path before me and turned...and I was transfixed. All that existed for that moment were the eyes in the misty face before me. Mysterious eyes ... mischevious eyes ... eyes shrouded with past pain and filled with current doubt ... eyes bright with life, laughter, love and hope.

The alarm went off and the moment ended...all I am left with now is the fading memory of those eyes.

I'll be looking for those eyes...

Damn Work Ethic.....

You know, it's days like today that I really hate having a work ethic. You know, that little cricket that sits on your shoulder and chirps at you about how the company is paying you so you need to go to work. I really wish I could squish that damn cricket on days like this. The sun is shining in a clear blue sky...a light breeze is blowing out of the west...it's a beautiful 46 degrees (that's 8 for those of you using the wrong temperature scale).

It's yet another perfect kind of day for a drive to nowhere specific...the perfect kind of day to enjoy a picnic in a picturesque setting...the perfect kind of day to get far enough from the nearest cell phone tower to make phones useless...the perfect kind of day to get far enough from civilization so that even the air is still.

It's another perfect kind of day....trampled on by a damn work ethic. I'm going to cling to the image of where I want to be as my view today....I hope you all get to enjoy a view of your own...

Frame Of Mind

The change in weather that has just settled over my part of the country has put me into a fantastic frame of mind. The sunny skies...the crisp, cooler air...the smell of fall...I just want to grab the cooler, stock it with food and drink, toss it all in the car and drive - windows down...CD turned up...just going...

Finding a long, lightly traveled country road and just drive it until I find that perfect spot to stop. Haul the cooler to the top of a small hill, overlooking a field of sunflowers beside a winding stream, and in the shade of the trees, lay out the picnic and open a good bottle of wine and watch the sun work it's way across the sky. As the sun begins it's descent, pack up the cooler with the remnants of the food, repack the car and begin the slow, carefree ride back. Get home, throw open all the windows in the house, climb into bed and just relax while enjoying the end of the day...knowing that tomorrow I could do it all again.

This is my frame of mind...this is where I want to be...this is the view I cherish today while I'm stuck in the office...I hope you each get to enjoy your own view on this beautiful day...

His New Delta Nickname...

Many of you will recognize the title of this post as a reference to the movie Animal House...anyone that doesn't needs to go and find a copy and watch it this weekend. No, I don't get a kickback from the movie distributors....consider this my contribution to your continued blossoming as a person. Everyone around you will thank me for having you watch this iconic film.

Ok...none of that was the purpose of this morning's post....I really should have myself tested for ADD sometime soon...WOW - what a pretty sunrise....

Last night, I took my Son to an Ice Cream Social at his school. As soon as we got there, he was swarmed by what appeared to be every 3rd grade girl that was there. This mass of giggling little girls surrounded my Son and dragged him to the middle of the playground where the DJ was set up so that he could dance with them...all of them. I tell ya' the boy is so smooth that as he's being dragged off I hear him saying hello to each of the girls, by name, and complimenting them on the outfits that they changed into after school. Talk about having a learning moment...this kid at 8 has moves that I still don't have...LOL!!

So while I'm standing at the outskirts of the dance area, with all the other parents, I get approached by a couple of the little girl's Daddies...all that ran through my head was - God please help me get through this in one piece. Each of them commented that my Son was a common topic of conversation at their houses...it seems that he has at some point or another enchanted each and every girl in his grade level.

Therefore, it is my pride (as a former Pledge Master and his Daddy) to provide my Son with a new nickname. From this day forward his new Delta nickname will be...Silky - because he's just too damn smooth...

Enjoy your view this weekend everyone....I'll definitely enjoy my own...

Music...

This week music seems to have been playing a huge part in my life...even today I'm tempted to post another song...and regardless of the songs I have used this week, I've really been in a great mood. I know...Monday's tune was a bit angry and Yesterday's was a whole lot soulful...but my view and my mood have not been this good in quite a while. All kinds of music have been washing over me recently...Jazz, Modern Rock, Classic Rock, Ska, Country, heck - even some Disco...each song has been complementing my mood. It doesn't matter what the genre....what the subject...this week music is helping my spirit to be free.

I hope that you all get to find the music that does the same for you as you enjoy the view before you. I am definitely enjoying my own view.

Drift Away...

Maybe it's all the beautiful rain...maybe it's something more...but this song fits my mood today. I'm going to sit here and enjoy my view....I hope you get a chance to enjoy your own.
Drift Away - Dobie Gray

Day after day I'm more confused
Yet I look for the light
Through the pourin rain
You know thats a game that I hate to lose
And I'm feeling the strain
Aint it a shame

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away
[repeat]

Beginning to think that Im wasting time
I dont understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
Now Im counting on you
To carry me through

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away
[repeat]

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when Im feeling blue
The guitars coming through to soothe me

Thanks for the joy that youre given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
Your rythm and rhyme and harmony
Youve helped me along
Makin me strong

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I want to get lost in your rock and roll
And drift away
[repeat]
Na, na, now wont ya
Wont ya take, oh ha ..take me

Letdown...

Not since I was a kid at the holidays have I felt as letdown as last night. You know the feeling...you are so sure that you're going to get exactly what you want...so sure that something you have hoped for is going to happen...so sure that things were just going to be perfect...then you open that package and in place of that shiny toy you were expecting - yup, you remember, it was socks...ugly ones...

Well, last night was kinda' like that for me. I had my heart set on a quiet night...just me, sitting in my backyard under the overhang of the house watching the cool fall rain. I love watching the rain...I always have. Everything looked perfect, it was what most would call a miserable night...rain fell most of the way home. Traffic sucked, people looked grumpy...I was loving it. I stopped to pick up some dinner and by the time I got home, the rain had stopped.

Hoping that it was just a lull in the rain, I still sat outside and had my dinner...enjoying the smell of freshly fallen rain...waiting for it to start raining again any moment. I waited all night. Finally, at about 10 PM, I decided I had waited enough and went to bed...without the rain I had been looking forward to.

So...that was my night...I suffered through the biggest letdown since I didn't get Rock-em-Sock-em Robots for my 9th birthday...mostly because this one was self-induced. However, as they say - today is a new day...with it I get another chance to enjoy my view...and yup, you know it - I am absolutely going to. Hope you all enjoy your own too.

Five Years...

Five years ago, war was brought to the shores of this country for the first time since Pearl Harbor. Shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the failed attack that ended in a field in Pennsylvania, there were many songs commerating everything that happened...and one that talked about how we reacted to these attacks. That song still echoes through my mind daily...especially more so today. In memory of all those that died in the attacks, those that gave their lives in the rescue attempts and all the Men and Women in our Armed Forces that have given their lives hunting those responsible and those that give them support and comfort...

American Girls and American Guys
We’ll always stand up and salute
We’ll always recognize
When we see Old Glory Flying
There’s a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Until the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin’ in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
`Cause we`ll put a boot in your ass
It`s the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shakin’ her fist
And the eagle will fly
Man, it’s gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringin’ her bell
And it feels like the whole wide world is raining down on you

Fork in the Road

This morning's sunrise finds me atop a little hill in the road...I can clearly see the fork in the road ahead...the main road is a well paved 4 lane highway that curves gently off towards the rising sun; the other tine of the fork however appears to be a 2 lane country road, twisting and winding its way towards the horizon. Both roads have their advantages...both roads appeal to me - I'm just not sure which one to follow.

I know that I would like to take the country road...enjoy the time that I get to spend among the beautiful countryside...just seeing where the road will lead, but at the same time the lure of the highway and the passing lane is a siren who's song is difficult to ignore. Zipping down the highway doing 125 with my hair on fire may just be what I need right now, but that little country road has an allure that calls to me with a voice that is getting stronger by the moment, making me want to slow down and see what happens.

Since that fork is looming ahead and I need to decide which way to go...I'm going to set up the hammock between two big old shade trees, right here on this hill-top, and just weigh my options for a bit. The view from here is magnificent...I hope your own view is too.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Feelings..

Today finds me in the grip of a set of feelings that I haven't had in a while. My heart is thumping in my chest...my mind constantly awhirl. I'm constantly anxious...time is moving so slowly. I'm looking forward to this ride that I'm about to take...yet I'm nervous about where it might be going. This is new...exciting...a bit scary....

It's the new Football Season and it begins tonight!!!!!

What did you think I was talking about???

Happy Thursday everyone! Enjoy your view...I'm enjoying mine.

Nothing...

I woke up this morning and the thoughts of the past couple days have finally finished their laps in my brain-pan.

As I sit here watching the sun rise...Coke Zero and bagel in hand...I find myself looking forward to the day ahead. I have no idea what awaits me at the office, but for some reason it just doesn't matter today.

I'm not quite sure where this attitude came from today, but I'm not questioning it either. I'm in a great mood and I intend to stay that way. Not even TB is gonna ruin my mood today.

While I enjoy my own view...I hope that you all get to enjoy your own too.

Purging...

Ok...one last post and I should have purged these thoughts that are still going round and round in my head about what I do and don't want in any relationship that I may have in the future...the list of things on both sides of the equation keeps growing...but as I step back and look at it, I now see that most of the list can be boiled down to a simple statement...I want to be me and be loved for it.

Everything else - even the requirement about adoring my Son, is secondary. I want to be loved just for being me, flaws and all. I'm a complex critter, I admit it, but I am me and I will not stop being me just to be with someone. I did that once and it took far, far too long before I got back to being me. I owe it to myself, to never stop being me; but more importantly (to me) I owe it to the Friends that helped me become me again, to never stop being me...not for anyone.

I'm sure that there's someone out there who will fill the space that is Her's alone. Someday I will find Her, the woman that is to be my partner in everything we do...the one that complements me...the one that challenges me...the one that calls to say 'Love you too' after she reads the little note I slipped into her lunch-bag...the one that sends me flowers at work, just because it's Tuesday...the one that I want to share the quiet of a sunrise with...the one that will look at me during a fall sunset 40 years down the road and make my heart soar...

Yup, someday I'll find Her...unless She finds me first...

Enjoy your view everyone.

Like Jack Handy...

I just got home from dinner at one of my Best Friend's houses. I had an amazing time with him and his wife and their son...then again, I always do. Dinner tonight was a last minute thing...they bought a toy and wanted to show it off....NO NOT THAT KIND OF TOY - PERVERTS!!! They bought a 1972 Corvette Stingray...can we say Chrome, Boys and Girls??? I knew you could.... Sorry...had a Mr. Rogers moment there... The car is beautiful...and 7 years older than my Best Friend's wife...but that's a different tale...

During dinner tonight my Best Friend's wife asked me when I was going to start dating again. I gave her the quick brush off answer "When I find someone that's not insane..." to which she asked me what I was looking for in someone. This set off a series of Jack Handy moments that lasted the rest for the night...and are still going on.

What am I looking for?

I really don't know...as a friend said I'll know when I find her - I'll feel it. I do know that there really is only one mandatory requirement for anyone that will be with me...she must adore my Son as much as she does me...other than that I guess there's really no set formula to the perfect woman for me.

I want to find someone that makes me smile and will dry my tears...someone that loves to snuggle as much as they love to go out...someone to share the good and the bad with...someone willing to challenge my mind and my spirit...someone that I can talk to about anything and isn't afraid to do the same...someone that can carry their end of a conversation and understand and appreciate sarcasm...someone that will let me lean on them when I need to and will lean on me when they need to...someone that will love and appreciate me for the person that I am...someone that I can love and appreciate for being the person that they are...Height, weight, age...these are numbers...looks are fleeting and hair styles change - none of these matter in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not actively looking for someone...but I hope that my friend is right and I'm aware enough to recognize her when I find her...until then, I'm going to keep traveling this road and doing my best to enjoy the view...
