Ten Things...

I have seen this on several different blogs and decided to give it a try myself. The idea is to write one thing that you can't say to each of 10 different people. It appears to have a very cleansing effect - so here it goes....

1 - I'm starting with you because even though you know that there is nothing that I can't tell you, I don't think I've ever said it this way. You came into my life and helped me to heal...then beyond that you gave me a gift beyond all value and you are treasured beyond words for it. I will always hold onto what we had...remembering, with all the emotion of those moments, what was and what might have been...but not ever at the expense of what we now share. I guess it all boils down to just this...I love you and look forward to this ongoing journey knowing you are beside me always, no matter what...my true Friend for all time.

2 - I am so proud of you! The changes that you have made in yourself are just amazing to see and I know that you are going to be even stronger still than you are today. You are an amazing Friend and I am blessed to have you in my life. I look forward to dancing at your wedding... whenever that may be. LOL!

3 - I sit and think about you often...trying to figure out exactly what it is that lets me open up to you the way I do. We have shared a lot within a little time and I don't want to imagine a time when you are not there to talk to. I value your judgment and direct honesty. You are an incredible woman and I am very lucky to have you in my life.

4 - You will never read this...you will never know that this site exists...but I need you to know that even without trying you are the greatest source of joy in my life. I am constantly in awe of all that you do and all you know. You may have only been here for a short period of my life, but you are the reason that I keep going. You are first on a very short list of people that I will do anything for. You will always have my friendship, love, loyalty and respect. I visibly swell with pride every time I talk about you and I talk about you all the time. I'm proud to be more than a parent to you...I'm proud to be your Friend.

5 - Somewhere on this journey we became Family...more than that - you are the closest thing I will ever have to a twin brother as your birthday is 22 days after mine...I miss hanging out with you. I know that things are different for us now that we are 'grown-ups', but I miss just being able to kick back and talk with my brother for hours on end. This isn't what I wanted to tell you though...I am so happy that you found your perfect match and that you now have a beautiful little boy. I was worried about you for a long time...I'm not anymore - I know you're going to be more than ok...you are going to be happy for the rest of your days and I am grateful for that.

6 - You are the older brother I never had and I feel guilty because I hate that you have allowed your wife to chase most of your friends away. I like her...I even love her because she loves you...but I could just kill her for the wedge she has driven between you and friends we grew up with. You've been together for 6 years...in that time you went from having Halloween parties that had all your friends there to having a party last year where I was the only one of your friends that was there...everyone else was her friends. Including an ex-boyfriend that she spent the entire night hanging on while you ran around getting drinks and keeping food full. I hope that you are truly happy because I don't see it...then again, we don't really talk all that often anymore....also her doing.

7 - I owe you a bigger debt than I will ever be able to repay. You have spent my entire life guiding me...leading, even when I have been too stubborn to follow...always willing to let me take that fall because I needed to, so that I could grow...always there with the duct tape to help hold the broken pieces in place until I healed...always loving - even when being what I saw as intrusive and judgmental. You are my rock in the sea of confusion that is daily life. I know that I wasn't there for you when you needed me...I allowed someone to influence my judgment that shouldn't have had any say in the matter. You tell me that it doesn't matter...it's in the past, but I have spent every day since that mistake trying to make things right in my mind...I know I never will...but I am trying to do it anyway. I hope I am half the parent to your Grandson that you have been to me.

8 - When I was younger you were always on the road...traveling to put a roof over our heads and food in our bellys...and when you were home - you were always the disciplinarian. It took us a long time to form a real bond...but I wouldn't trade what we have for anything. You are more than just a parent...you are a Friend. I love spending time with you because in you, I see someone that I model myself after daily...an Honorable, Strong, Loving, Giving, Bear of a Man. I hope to have the same relationship with my Son that you and I have.

9 - When we were children you were my shadow...it didn't matter that you were a girl and I was a boy...if I could do it you had to try. As we grew up, you still watched every move that I made...you were still always there, a step or 2 behind me, trying everything that I did. You learned with each step we took...you applied everything that you learned and now you are not only a highly respected litigator, but you are a corporate officer for a multi-billion dollar business. In the speech I gave at your wedding I started to tell you how proud I am of you...not because of your accomplishments but because of the woman that you have become. I never got the words out...I just kept seeing you as that little bundle that spit up on me the day she came home from the hospital...and my words failed me. You are an incredible woman and I am so proud to be your big brother.

10 - I have intentionally saved you for last...not because you were the most important, but because you matter the least. You accused me once of hating you. I don't hate you...hate is a strong emotion..the truth is that I don't care enough about you to even dislike you. Accept the suggested changes to the paperwork...so we can finally put this thing to rest. It's been dead for long enough, don't you think?? Let it finally be buried so we can each go on with our lives.

Hanging In....

Just a quick post to let you all know that I'm hanging in there this morning.

Hope you get to enjoy your own views today and this weekend.

I'll try to post more later.

I AM NOT!!

OK...to prove that I am SO NOT the tease that I was accused of being yesterday, I will give you all the information that I can..without saying something that I think will hex the outcome.

Many of you know that I have been fighting my way thru an ugly divorce for almost 3 years...well I spoke to my lawyer and....damn!!!

That's REALLY all that I can say now...anything more is just tempting the folks in charge of Karma to lay one hell of a smackdown on my ass and I SO don't need that right now. I know that you all understand that.

Thanks for all the support even without having known this much. Thanks for helping me to enjoy my view...I hope you all get to enjoy your own views.

I Admit It...

I've got alot that I could talk about right now...it all has the potential to be very good but I've got a history of writing about things and having them blow up on me. So you'll have to bear with me and just watch one of the most amazing little films I've ever seen. Click HERE for it.

I promise, as soon as I can talk about everything I will...until then, please keep your fingers crossed for me and send me any positive vibes that you can while you enjoy your view.

Interesting...

Very interesting...it appears that last post was apparently a little too morbid for you all. I've seen (on my site tracker stuff) that a half dozen or so of you have been here...but not a single comment on that post.

Does that mean that when the time comes no-one is gonna' send flowers or does it mean that you all love me so much that the very thought of my departure from this mortal coil is so overwhelmingly disturbing that you couldn't bring yourself to comment??

Oh well...it's been a 'fun' morning here - I've only had 3 new projects dropped on me that are all due within the next week. So I'm sorry, but this post is gonna be short too. I am enjoying my view today...extra work and all.

I hope that each of you has a chance to enjoy their own view.

Easy Out

Not a lot to say yet today...so here's justa quick little post...saw this on several sites a while ago...just never did it until now. Here's my randomly generated Obituary...

'What will your obituary say?' at QuizGalaxy.com

Kid Rock??? Oh well...could be worse - it could have been Ashlee Simpson. LOL! I'll be back with something more later probably. Until then...enjoy your view.

I'm Back...

Well...the rain on Saturday didn't sink the 14' fishing boat we rented and all the fish we caught on Sunday didn't sink the chartered boat we we on...so I guess I'm back. LOL!!

Seriously though, Dad and I had an absolutely phenomenal time. We ran into some really nasty weather on Saturday and wound up with just a couple of hits that wound up being nothing by the time we reeled in...but yesterday - WOW!! Within the first couple hours on the lake we had each caught a half dozen fish...by noon we had caught the limit on Lake Trout and by 2 PM we stopped keeping what we caught and began releasing them back alive. We cam home with 6 Stripped Bass, 3 White Bass, 1 Brown Trout and 4 Lake Trout...yes, 14 Fish in 6 hours which is why we released everything else for the next 3 hours. Yes, I have some pictures - but until I can get the underwater camera developed the following will have to do...

Brown Trout...
White Bass...
Lake Trout...
Stripped Bass...

So, I'm back and I'm getting caught up on everything that happened while I was gone. I may not comment, but know that I've been to see you all. Now...time to catch up on some work...enjoy your view today...I'm still enjoying mine.

Over-Eager??

Ok...so maybe I'm a bit over-eager here...but I'm packed and ready to go already and we aren't leaving until almost noon on Friday.

I don't know if I'll be able to post again before I go...so on the off chance that I don't. Have a wonderful weekend...I'll take lots of pictures of anything that we catch and have lots to tell you about Monday morning.

I hope you all get to enjoy your own view...I will definitely be enjoying mine.

Self Serving Post

WOO-HOO!!!! The weather for my fishing trip is going to be great...low 80s (mid 20s)and sunny...so figure it'll be upper 70s (low 20s) on the water....so says the Weather Channel. I am so hoping that they finally got it right...LOL!! But this wasn't really what I wanted to post about today....today I had a very targeted post to do.

Yesterday, a Friend had a problem and she asked for some advice...I gave it and was promptly ignored. Well the problem worked itself out about 4 hours later and you know what??? Yup, exactly what I said was going to happen...happened. Now, you all are going to have to bear with me here, but I have to do this....

I
TOLD
YOU
SO!!!!

Maybe now you'll pay attention when I give solicited advice from now on...but I doubt it...you're too stubborn. Then again, that's one of the things that I love about you.

See ya'. xx

Can You Hear It???

Ssssshhhhhhhhh...when all is still I can just make it out...listen carefully with me...can you hear it???? Listen...there it is...the gentle hum of a 25 horsepower outboard motor purring as the boat gently follows the bank...the water gently hissing around the hull as it cuts thru the small waves...the birds singing as they seek a place to rest out of the suns glare.

Can you hear it? Isn't it a wonderful sound?

Can you smell the exhaust of the engine?

Can you see the smile on my face as I wait patiently for the fish to strike?

It's coming dear friends...it's close enough that I went through my tackle box last night...it's only 3 days - Friday through Sunday...but it'll be enough...for now. With all that's been going on, I'm taking my Dad fishing for the weekend. We're gonna stay in a hotel that we used to stay in every summer when we went up as a family, we're renting a boat on Saturday to go fishing for bass and northern (note to self - put fresh batteries in the GPS) and Sunday we're going trout fishing with a guide who is the son of the guide my Grandfather used to hire.

I guess Dad's excitement for the weekend away is a little contagious...LOL!! Oh well...I'm gonna enjoy my view today as I start to plan out the clothes I need to pack...hope you get to enjoy your own view...

Prescription Filled

Last night after I dropped my Son off at his mother's, I was feeling more than a bid down. I spent some time talking with a friend and felt a bit better...but when I took the advice I was given and went out for a nice dinner and to do something that I enjoy doing, just for me...I felt restored.

So I guess the purpose of this post is to say 'THANK YOU' to my wise friend. Without your pushing me to go do something for me (besides dinner), I probably would have just come back home and sulked. By getting out, I had the chance to release that stuff pent up inside...just like you knew I would.

What does Mr. G. do when he's out by his lonesome, you ask?? Well, I started with a nice meal...grilled salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and spinach in garlic...paired with a fantastic Merlot that the Sommelier recommended. Then I decided to go and play a little 9-ball. Now, I haven't played in over a year...and it showed. LOL. However, after a couple of vodka martinis, I really didn't care how badly I sucked anymore...no, I didn't get drunk - just a little loose. I played for a good 3 hours and then decided to call it a night. Went home, had a couple tall glasses of water and crashed for the night...it's a damn good thing I remembered to set the alarm clock last night because I would have slept forever today...I've gotta remember not to do that on a 'school night' any more...I'm not as young as I once was and being up late when I've gotta be up early is worse than being drunk.

So...again 'THANK YOU' my friend...your prescription worked wonders. Even being a little tired, I'm enjoying my view today.

I hope you all get to enjoy your own view...

Around The Corner...

This was sent to me...rather than clutter anyone's email with it...I thought I would post it here...each of you that comes here on a regular or even semi-regular basis should know how much I value your support and friendship...but if you don't - please know that each of you are appreciated.

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.
Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself.
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you.
Because when you decide that it is the right time it might be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets.
And most importantly, stay close to your friends
and family, for they have helped make you the person that you are today.

Thank you all for helping me become the ever growing person that I am. Enjoy your view...

Hard Lesson Learned...

Tema no lo que sé, pero lo que puedo aprender -

Fear not what I know, but what I can learn.

This morning my Son learned a hard lesson...one that I would have spared him learning for several years still if I could...he learned that the Truth is precious and not everyone is capable of telling the Truth.

Someone very close to my Son lied to him and this morning he caught them in their lie. I don't think that he's ever going to trust that person again. The lie was even over something stupid...the person that told it should have known that the Truth would have been understood...now there is a wall between them that I don't think he will ever let collapse. The biggest problem is that the person who lied to him doesn't realize that he knows he was lied to...they think everything is ok and I don't want to get involved...is that the wrong thing to do?

I just feel that they need to work it out among themselves...I think my Son needs to deal with it in the way he feels is best. Is that expecting too much out of him?? Am I doing the right thing by staying out of it or am I creating further problems by not getting involved?

Why don't children come with Instructions??? 'Here you are...a happy, healthy baby...and your instruction manual. We highly suggest that you take great notes on chapters 1 thru 18 before you leave the hospital. This is your best shot at doing it...the next 18 years are pretty much a wash as far as time is concerned.'

All I am truly sure of through this entire thing is that tonight I have to explain a hard concept to my boy...Veritas Nunquam Perit...Truth Never Dies. I know he's capable of understanding, I just wish that he didn't need to learn this so soon in his young life.

Enjoy your view today and this weekend....

In The Beginning...

The past couple of posts I've done a lot of talking about my Son...yet I've never really talked about the woman that gave me such an amazing gift...not even on the other blog that I kept before this one. The other site was full of pain and anger because of the newness of the divorce process...this site has always been about finding my way now that many things have changed in my life...neither place really seemed right to discuss the topic. LOL...the topic...I suppose that's better than the nickname that my 2 oldest friends in this world have taken to calling my Son's mother...they (and now all who know me) refer to her as TB - short for The Bitch. I think perhaps it's time to tell some of the tale.

It was early October...I was a newly activated Brother in a Fraternity, my days of hell as a pledge behind me, and I was at a House function. My House had a rule that said you had to be at any function for an hour or be fined $100...having a test the next morning and being broke, I showed up an hour early so I could leave just as things were supposed to begin.

As I was going up stairs to let the President of the House know I was leaving, I had to pass the front door to do so, the door opened and 2 of our Little Sisters (a group of girls that helped with social event planning) walked in...followed by what appeared to me to be the most amazing set of eyes that I had ever seen. The huge brown eyes drew me in and the only thought running through my head at that point was 'Damn...I've got to meet the person attached to those eyes...'

So, to make a long story a bit longer....I wound up staying and talking to her all night. When the time came and everyone was leaving, she handed me her phone number and told me that I had better call her in the morning. Well, I did and that began our dating.

Things were ok between us for a while, then things started to change...suddenly my Family...my rock in a crazy world...was not good enough for her. She began sniping at my mother and sister...conflict was building quickly....yet through it all I turned a blind eye because I thought I loved her. Things finally built to a head where it came down to me having to choose between my Family and her...I was young...I was stupid...I made the wrong decision and cut off contact with my Family for 2 months. They were the longest 2 months of my life. During that time, I started to really look at our relationship. I realized that it wasn't what I wanted...my Family didn't approve and I missed them...so I was going to end things with her.

The day I was going to tell her...she tells me that she's pregnant with my child. Being young...stupid...and a man with an overly developed sense of Honor, I not only stayed with her...but I gave her my name so that my child would have a set of parents. Regardless of how I felt about her...in my mind, it was the right thing to do. Hell...it's only 18 years until the kid is grown...I'll get the divorce and live my life then.

I would have stayed too. I know that I will never find out why she decided to do it but I guess that she finally realized that I was never going to love her or share her bed again and she decided to file for divorce just before my Son's 6th Birthday. At the time it hurt and angered me...but looking back I realize that it was the best thing that had happened to me in over a decade.

So this ends the beginning...I hope it hasn't bored you all to tears. I'm still enjoying my view today...I hope you all do too.

For An Instant...

For an instant, he stood before me...a man that inspires others to follow his lead without question...not model pretty, but handsome enough to insure that he never wanted for a date. His eye color, hair and dark tan all betray his mother's Italian ancestry...his wide shoulders, broad chest and narrow waist show his dedication to the gym and he moved with the grace only martial artists and dancers know. All of this burned itself into my retinas in that instant before he spoke...when he did, his words didn't fit the image before me......"Daddy, we need to walk Katye to her car...it's the right thing to do." I blinked and suddenly my Son stood before me again...looking up at me with an expression that said 'why are you still standing there??'.

It turns out that Katye is his camp counselor...and the current love of his life. She is 18...tall, blond and tan...going into her second year at university and she adores him because he is (in her words) her 'knight in shining armor'. For the second time in moments I stood speechless, thinking 'What is it with this kid and blondes??'...until I was again jolted out of my reverie by my Son saying "Ready, Daddy?"

While I don't think I'll ever really be ready for what I had just seen and heard...I smiled and walked a pace behind them as my Son escorted his 'Lady' to her car and gave her a hug goodbye. Without another word between us, my Son and I got into my car and drove home.

In his entire, although admittedly short, life...I don't think my Son has ever made me more proud of him than he did in that instant, when he showed me that he has been paying attention not only to what I tell him about the proper way to treat a lady, but to the little things that I do in the presence of one (even his mother).

My smile hasn't faded from my face since...and I don't think it's going to for a while. Enjoy your view today...I'm definitely enjoying mine.

Bonus Time

Jury duty...the last refuge of those who are extremely bored or those too stupid to get out of it. Somehow...even with a case pending in family court and a state law saying that if you have any case pending in any court you are not eligible for jury duty...my Son's mother is spending this week as a member of a jury.

What does this mean?? Well...it means a couple of things...first it is finally definitive proof that she's extremely stupid since she couldn't get out of it even with a state law in her favor, and second it means that I get to have my Son staying with me tonight (so I can take him to camp tomorrow) and I will have him with me from Thursday night until Sunday because it's my normal weekend with him. He will be going to a friend's house after camp tomorrow and she'll drop him off with me on Thursday morning so I can take him to camp again.

Needless to say, I've been floating. Having all this bonus time with my Son is something that I intend to cherish. I'll still be around...those of you I chat with in IM will still see me morning or night...and I'll still be posting...other than having my Son with me...it's still business as usual and I've gotta TCB...

Have a great day and enjoy your view!

Lost In Time...

As the last bits of my armor are clicked into place, isolating me from the world...I quiet my mind and shelter my soul against the conflict ahead...for this Lady I shall fight, to the last...always defending her...protecting her from all harm...my sword and shield are hers, always. This I have promised.

Yes, she did release me from all vows made to her...but still I ride and fight under her colors...I will never stray from my word to be there when I am needed...it is not my way. I will forever be her sword of vengeance...always her guardian against the encroaching darkness.

Yes, I am a man out of my time...a Knight that has lost his way in the mists of time. I live by a Code and a Measure...I believe in Love, Honor and Truth, not as abstracts...but as tangible living things. I fight for those that I love...both to keep them close to my heart and to insure their happiness as they wander in this dangerous world. Sometimes it is with words alone...sometimes it is with strength of arms...but always it is with all that I am and all that I hope to become.

To this end I have seen battle the past few days...the preparation time was scant...the battles are still ongoing...skirmishes have been fought and hearts have bled. I will not lay down my arms until I know the last battle has been fought...I can not and will not give up fighting...even by her leave I will not give up this fight...too much is at stake.

The shield displayed above bears the Crest of the Highfolk Clan...Background: White and Green burely per pale counterchanged White: Peace and Sincerity Green: Hope, joy, and loyalty in love...a more fitting crest for this poor Knight I could never have selected.

We Interrupt Today's Regularly Scheduled Post

This morning my Son's mother called me and asked if I would make sure that my Son got to camp on time and got picked up...she has jury duty and her mother is sick.

So I'm off to take care of my Son.

I hope you get to enjoy your view today...I've had an unexpectedly great start to my day!

On My Mind...

This morning as I sit and watch a beautiful sunrise, my mind drifts to three women who have become very special to me...each in her own way.

Miranda...I'm so happy that your g/f is finally visiting! You were absolutely glowing last night when we talked...it was a new Northern Light...LOL! Put all worries about the girls out of your head and cherish the time you have. I'll miss our nightly talks, but I smile knowing that you'll be so busy 'entertaining' that you won't have the chance to. (((HUGS)))

Sugar...it does my heart a world of good to see that you're happy with your new love. You (like Miranda) deserve to be happy. I look forward to getting to talk with you soon. (((HUGS)))

Anna...You, more than the other two, have been foremost on my mind. I hope that you can feel all the support that I'm sending you today. I think I'm as anxious for you to have a good Dr. visit as you and your husband are. LOL!! I look forward to seeing what I hope is a happy post after your visit today, and I know that we'll talk soon. (((HUGS)))

I've got a bunch of other stuff rattling around in my skull...but it'll keep until later. Until then...I'm just gonna lay out the hammock and enjoy my view. I hope you get a chance to enjoy your own view today, too.

Not Much To Say...

I don't really have much to say today...so I thought I would try the name definition thing that I found on Anna's site the other day. I think the result was pretty flattering...LOL!

Mr. G
[noun]:

A master of sexual gratification

'How" will you be defined in the sexual dictionary?'

Have a great day everyone...and enjoy your view.

Bitter-Sweet Wednesday

This morning has been bitter-sweet for me...I had to drop my Son off at camp this morning before work...he'll be getting picked up by his mother this afternoon and I won't see him again until next Tuesday. Thus the bitter....but the sweet is sweet enough to offset the pain of not seeing him...he made me bend down and when I did he gave me a huge hug and a kiss and told me that he 'loved everything we did since Friday' and that he would miss seeing me.

So today...I'm gonna sit with my inner child and we're gonna' have a little 'tea party' with all of his invisible friends...the menu Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chocolate Milk...

Enjoy your own view...

July 4th!!!

The weather yesterday didn't cooperate and the trip to the zoo that my Son had planned for us didn't happen...the rain this morning gave way to muggy, hot, sticky air that didn't move...maybe today will be better. Worst case scenario...I put him in a swimsuit and turn the hose on him. LOL!

Regardless of what today holds, we will both enjoy our view...I hope you all get to enjoy your own view today.

Happy 4th of July!!!

Help!!!

I've snuck away...but I only have a moment...if he finds out that I'm reaching out to the outside world - the vengence will be swift and merciless....

I'm being held captive by a maniac!! There's always noise...he won't let me sleep....won't let me eat in quiet...won't let me talk on the phone...I'm not allowed to even take 5 minutes alone in the bathroom...and time alone for the computer is almost non-existant.

Hell...who am I trying to fool??? You all know that I am cherishing every moment of my time with my Son. He's 8 so he never stops talking...he runs on less sleep than I do...he's nosey so a private conversation is almost impossible...and he is loving every moment of our time together too. Today he's taking me on an adventure of some kind...I have to drive and I have to pay, but I don't know where we are going...and you know what?? I don't care!!! I'll be with my boy and that's all that matters!

Have a wonderful day...enjoy your view...you can bet your last nickle that I am enjoying mine!
